Magic Mike XXL review

I saw the original in the theater and liked it so much I bought it.  It was a good movie but if I am being honest I mostly bought it just to watch Channing Tatum dance whenever I wanted.  My boyfriend watched it and said, " It was pretty good minus the dance scenes but why didn't Mike tell his girlfriend about his plans to start his own furniture business?"  I , of course, never even gave  it a thought.  I mention this all as a comparison to just how much more I enjoyed the second movie that much more.  It's not often that I have seen a sequel that is just as good or better than. I just can't wait for the DVD release of Magic Mike XXL.

This movie takes place 3 years after Mike has quit the industry to pursue his own business.  During the first 20 minutes that all may not be all " Sunshine and Roses" for Mike in his new life. Then we get to see him cut loose in his workshop during a welding session to Ginuwine's Pony and the happiness of this one small moment shows on his face.  Then he gets a call regarding his old boss Dallas and sets off the meet up with the rest of the guys.  I don't want to give up too much but the guys decide to take a road trip to the National Stripper convention in South Carolina and Mike puts his life on pause to go along for the ride. This movie has some seriously sweet dance routines and quite a few surprises.  Jada Pinkett Smith, Andie MacDowell, and Amber Heard add additional sexiness to an already hot movie.  Gabriel Iglesias, Donald Glover, and Stephen "Twitch" Boss compliment and round out the guys very nicely.  Matt Bomer offers a surprising performance of his own in the movie as well as the soundtrack.
I would give this a 5/5 rating. It is so going into the home library!

Cast:
Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, Kevin Nash, Gabriel Iglesias, Amber Heard, Jada Pinkett Smith, Donald Glover, Michael Strahan, Andie MacDowell, Elizabeth Banks

Review of The Redhead Plays Her Hand by Alice Clayton

Grace and Jack are back in the final book of The Redhead Series by Alice Clayton.  Grace has returned home to LA and the house she shares with Jack.  She is so happy to be with her friends and her "George".  The musical she was starring in has been adapted into a TV show with her in the title role.  She is instantly thrust into grueling hours, harsh criticism, and insane exercise schedules.  She is asked to lose 15 lbs. for the show which brings up all the body image issues she's had in the past.  She begins struggling with what is good for the show vs. what is good for her health.  This is all going on while the tabloids are still speculating about the actual status of her relationship with Hollywood's hottest leading man.
Jack is super excited to have his girl back home where she belongs.  Their mutual agent, Holly, is still making Grace and him keep their relationship private.  He has signed on to film a new movie that keeps him in the desert of Las Vegas for weeks at a time.  He is frustrated with his new found fame and the lack of privacy and demands that come with it.  He makes friends with another cast member who was the previous " Hollywood Golden Boy".  The closer their friendship gets the more it becomes obvious that Grace and Holly do not approve.  Jack begins going out on a regular basis.  He starts partying out of control and before long the press is having a field day.
Grace is forced to watch Jack spiral out of control and clueless on how to help.  It seems as though the better her career seems to be going the worse Jack's is.
This last book made me feel a wide range of emotions. ( I was mad when Grace was mad.) I felt it was so refreshing to see the author tackle the weight/body image issue that women face everyday, celebrity or not.  Grace is a strong character that resonates well with women in their 30's who still feel like a work in progress.  The best thing about this besides the obvious ( humor, sexiness, drama) is that it gives the reader a better appreciation of what life is actually like for celebrities and reminds us that  they are people too.

DVD/Blu-ray releases for July 7

So I know I have been bad and not posted in a while so I am making up for it. I even made an editorial calendar to keep my self on track!
Absolution is an action flick starring Vinnie Jones and Steven Seagal. All the sources I have checked have rated it 4 out of 5 stars so it may be worth the watch. It is basically about a government hitman trying to break up a human trafficking ring, take out a mob boss, and protect one of the girls involved in the ring. Not sure I will see this but feel free to leave a comment if you do so I can know if it is worth the watch.
Maggie is a zombie film starring Arnold Swarzenegger and Abigail Breslin. This is only rated PG-13. I am looking forward to watching this. I enjoy most (used cautiously)Arnold movies and zombies are a bonus. Maggie is a 16 year who gets the virus changing people to zombies but it will take around six months to turn fully. The film follows her character and how her family deals with all the changes that will come.
The Woman in Gold is a drama. It stars Helen Mirren as a Jewish refugee who had to leave her home and possessions during WWII to flee from the Nazis. She wants to reclaim some of her families pride and heritage  by getting back a famous painting of her aunt that was stolen during the war. The painting has become treasured and known as The Woman in Gold. Ryan Reynolds stars as her lawyer determined to help her get the family heirloom back. This is going to be a very good movie I think.
As always, I will follow with a review once I have watched any of these and of course these were not the only ones that dropped today. You can always check out www.dvdsreleasedates.com or www.ondvdreleases.com for more info.

Review of book 2 in the Redhead series by Alice Clayton

Book 2 in the "Redhead" series is The Redhead Revealed .   I just finished reading it a few days ago and had to share.
The new book opens with our love struck duo on 2 different coasts pursuing their acting dreams. Grace has been given the lead roll in an off Broadway musical with the hopes that it gets picked up for several runs. The director just happens to be an old college flame. Grace begins to realize that Jack is a rising star on the verge of being the next "it" boy at the ripe old age of 24. Not to mention he may soon be wearing the title of "sexiest man alive" and dodging the groupies that come with it. Long distance relationships are hard enough as it is but add to that 2 busy rising stars, a bossy manager/bff, and a couple of old loves looking to rekindle and you have a recipe for disaster. Grace is still having issues with the 9 year age difference and horrible tabloid comments when she lets her "crazy" get the best of her on the night of Jack's big movie premier.
Jack is on the west coast seriously missing his Gracie and the newly formed relationship they've built.  He is getting more frustrated by the day the closer he gets to opening night. He hates their relationship consists of lots and lots of sexting and late night phone calls. He hates the paparazzi
and his new sex symbol status that has women hanging around his apartment. He even hires a bodyguard and uses aliases when traveling. The thing he hates the most is keeping his relationship with Grace secret to protect his image and their privacy.
As the story unfolds you learn more about Grace's past with her director Michael. You also get to see how important this break is for her career and how very stressful being in the public eye can be.  I was rooting for this couple from page 1 and can't wait to get started on book 3, The Redhead Plays Her Hand.  Did I mention the nonstop humor and sexual chemistry that oozes from this couple? So worth the read. Feel free to read up on it at any of these sites: http://aliceclayton.com/  , www.goodreads.com, or www.amazon.com

Cucumber Salad for July 4th

Happy July 4th everyone!  We have decided to stick around home today and just enjoy the weather. Later on we are expecting my brother and his family to come over so we are going to use our new smoker and make some smoked mac and cheese, smoked BBQ chicken, and cucumber salad.  Yesterday we did a trial run with the smoker and I made my first ever batch of  smoked mac and cheese. It was delicious ( I used mozzarella, Colby/jack, sharp cheddar, pepper jack, and parmesan cheeses) however I just eyeballed the stuff I used to make my rue so I won't be including the exact recipe just yet. But it will be in a future post rest assured. The chicken I will post later if it goes according to plan LoL.  I make cucumber salad very rarely and have no idea why because it is so simple. I made some the other day for a potluck at work and thought it would compliment today's meal pretty well.

Ingredients:
2 large Vidalia /red onions ( which ever you prefer) diced
1 bottle of your favorite Italian dressing
6 med/lg tomatoes diced
2 English cucumbers diced
2Tbs of salt
2Tbs of black pepper
2Tbs of parsley
1Tbs red pepper flakes

                                                                   Ingredients

See what I mean....Such a simple, easy, side dish to make.  Oh and here are the only 2 pics I took of the smoked mac and cheese.
