Now that all the details are outta the way (lol see what I did there).....
I LOVE THIS FILM!!! I was a youngster when NWA first started gaining popularity and as with all things I had forgotten just how much they went through to become household names.  I watched this movie and was just overwhelmed by how many memories came flooding back to me of this time period.  I remember the news was always covering some sort of police brutality case or riots going on in LA.  I remember the music most of all.
The film is all about how the artists met, formed the group, all the issues that came with rising to the top of the west coast rap game, and refusing to be censored. NWA consisted of Ice Cube, Easy-E, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. This film was done so brilliantly. It also helped  to maintain the authenticity by having some of the producers be none other than Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Tomica Woods-Wright (wife to the late Easy-E). It was a longer running film but you will not even notice.  I love the fact that nothing was sugar coated or altered really ( at least based on my memory).  I also loved that there was no sort of "aha" moment when Easy-E contracts the HIV virus.
This is a movie that I would watch over and over again.I had planned to go to the theater but ended up sick the opening weekend. We are not even going to speak on the awesomeness of the soundtrack.  I watched the unrated director's cut on blue-ray. I then went out and bought it.
There are so many amazing details that went into making this movie. The cast was AMAZING.  Ice Cube was played by his own son O'Shea Jackson Jr. This was very cool.  The rest of the cast is as follows: Easy-E (Jason Mitchell), Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins), Suge Knight ( R. Marcus Taylor), DJ Yella (Neil Brown Jr), MC Ren (Aldis Hodge), Jerry Heller (Paul Giamatti), and Tomica Woods-Wright (Carra Patterson).  I don't know how the Oscars will go tonight but this movie is fantastic. It is a must watch.  You can get a copy at your local retailers or anywhere dvd/bluerays are sold. You can also purchase right from the official movie page at
