Fated Love by Susan Boles Review

Genre: Romantic Suspense with a  bit of Paranormal

Sarah Cameron’s life changes forever the night her art gallery burns to the ground under suspicious circumstances.  Fighting her devastation, she’s picking up the pieces and trying to understand what happened with the help of arson investigator, Jake Riordan – who’s far too attractive for her to concentrate.
Then the stalking incidents begin. Who could want her dead? And is it tied to the fire at the gallery?
Jake is convinced he knows who’s responsible for the fire. But is he too close to Sarah to see the truth? After he’s pulled off the case for being too personally involved, Jake convinces Sarah to travel to New Orleans with him to escape the stalker and investigate some mysteries from his own past.
In New Orleans, a diary and a set of old pictures reveal long hidden secrets that are coming home to roost.
Till Death Do Us Part, just got a whole new meaning.

This is the description that made me want to read this book.  I love a book with a little bit of everything. This had arson, attempted murder, stalkers, mystery, and love!  I did receive this book for free in exchange for my honest review but I loved this book.  I will admit that there were a couple times through it that I was convinced I knew who the person stalking poor Sarah was only to reconsider a few minutes later.  The story opens with a phone call in the middle of the night to Sarah Cameron to let her know that her beloved art gallery with some of her most precious pieces inside had burnt down.  Then she meets Jake Riordan who is the arson investigator.  Sparks fly between them even though Jake is convinced that the Cameron family accountant, Neil Phillips, is someone from his own past and Sarah reminds him of his old girlfriend who died tragically.  Sarah has a hard time believing that anyone would purposely destroy the gallery but when she starts finding herself being targeted and even almost murdered she begins to take it all a little more serious.

I really found this to be a quick read. I could not put it down, especially when the trip to New Orleans happens. A whole new level of mystery gets added to the book and I just devoured this story.  My favorite part of the story is the fact that it has a playlist of music to go with it. I totally went back through the book and read it a second time with the added music selections mentioned and it really added a layer ( who doesn't love some Jimmy Buffet and CCR classics).  This book is getting recommended to all my friends. There's even a facebook event going on

Burning Love- Elvis Presley
Count On Me- Bruno Mars

About the Author

Susan calls McNairy County, TN her home ground even though she has moved away. It was here, at Bethel Springs Junior High School that she began her writing career with two friends. They formed their own little writers group that was so secret they were the only ones who knew it existed. She still has some of the stories they wrote carefully preserved in a loose leaf binder and tucked away for safety.
She has worked in retail management, briefly for the Census Bureau and for many years in the investment/insurance industry in the regulatory compliance arena. All of which are left brain activities. So she exercises her right brain activity with reading and writing…just to keep both sides even.
Reading has been a passion since she was very young. As a toddler, her mother read to her from her 'baby books' and her Mother tells a story about her holding one of them upside down and 'reading' by repeating the story verbatim from memory.
Susan is a multi-genre hybrid author. Her first novel, Kate's Pride, is a historical women's fiction set in West Tennessee in the aftermath of the Civil War. The novel is loosely based on her own Great Grandmother and published under the pen name Renee Russell.
Her second novel, Fated Love, is a contemporary paranormal romantic suspense (with a twist of paranormal) set in Memphis, TN.
Life got in the way of writing for many years but now she's come back to her early love.

An Elite Dare

Some would call it sacrilege.

I’m living Paris for a whole month. The city of light and lovers—and now, the newest jewel in Gabriel Dare’s nightclub empire, the Elite Paris, with me as its grand opening DJ—means I’m living a dream. But I don’t want it. I’m only in this for the money, period. Even then, I never would have considered the gig if not for the pleas of my newest friend, Avery Dare. You see, Avery and I share a few commonalities—like daddy issues. Maybe confronting mine, and earning a nice bonus while I’m at it, will be the key to finally putting my past behind me.

I never asked fate to set up an alternate plan. But the bitch did. Royally.

Out of all the nightclubs in the city to invest in, Lucien Paget picked Gabriel’s. Now, the billionaire with the gaze of a demon and the body of an archangel has decided on a new challenge for himself. Me.

It’s pretty hysterical, this little “dare” of his—made even funnier by the money he insists on throwing behind it. But it’s his fortune, and if he wants to invest it in a few platonic dates with me, who am I to argue? He probably thinks his impossible beauty will sway me toward giving up the “extras”…and that his charm will topple me into true love. Well, the joke’s on him.

Then why am I not laughing?

Why do I want to atone for my sacrilege…by giving in to Lucien’s sinful desire?

Meet Angel Payne
USA Today bestselling romance author Angel Payne has been reading and writing her entire life, though her love for romances began in junior high, when writing with friends on "swap stories" they'd trade between classes. Needless to say, those stories involved lots of angst, groping, drama, and gooey kissing.

She began getting a paycheck for her writing in her twenties, writing record reviews for a Beverly Hills-based dance music magazine. Some years, various entertainment industry gigs, and a number of years in the hospitality industry later, Angel returned to the thing she loves the most: creating character-based romantic fiction. Along the way, she also graduated with two degrees from Chapman University in Southern California, taking departmental honors for English, before writing five historical romances for Kensington and Bantam/Doubleday/Dell.

Angel found a true home in writing contemporary-based romances that feature high heat and high concepts, focusing on memorable alpha men and the women who tame them. She has numerous book series to her credit, including the Kinky Truth series, the Secrets of Stone series (with Victoria Blue), the W.I.L.D. Boys of Special Forces series, and the acclaimed Cimarron series. Temptation Court, a new series being launched through the Dark Nights Discovery project, debuts in 2016.

Angel still lives in Southern California, where she is married to her soul mate and lives on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with their awesome daughter and Lady Claire, the dog with impeccable manners. When not writing, she enjoys reading, pop culture, alt rock, cute shoes, enjoying the outdoors, and being a gym rat.

A Tempting Dare

The last place Miami divorce attorney, Katherine Quinn wants to be is at her family’s Hampton home for their annual reunion, especially when she sets eyes on him. Sebastian James: hot shot sports medicine doctor for Miami Thunder, her big brother’s best friend, and the only guy she’s ever really wanted. What will it take for him to see that his Kitty Kat is all grown up, and just waiting for him to make her purr? Her friend dares her to seduce him. How tempting. Jaded by her career, she isn’t looking for love, but a weekend of hot sex to pass the time is just what she needs to get through the weekend.
It’s been a long ten years of look but don’t touch, and Sebastian has almost reached his limit, especially when Kat initiates a plan of seduction guaranteed to test his resolve as well as his professionalism. Her sweet kisses and searing touches threaten his loyalty to her brother, but he’s willing to risk it all to show her he’s the kind of man she doesn’t believe exists.
Will this cynical divorce lawyer still be his when the weekend ends, or will she serve him his walking papers and close the file on what could have been forever?

Shrek Jr the Musical Weekend at our house

So this post may seem a little random since I mostly discuss books, movies, or shows.  My daughter and I were watching some Netflix last year and stumbled upon a show called Shrek Jr the Musical.  We love all things Shrek so we thought we would give it a try.  It was so funny.  The music was just as catchy as the DreamWorks film.  Turns out this was a Broadway musical based on the actual movie with some minor adjustments. So imagine our surprise when, this Fall, the drama club director at my daughter's school mentioned that this was the exact same play they were putting on for the Spring musical.  If you have not seen the video of the Broadway production you are missing out.

I signed up to not only work the concession stand during one of the performances but to also bake something for them to sell.  I had noticed at previous plays that the stuff baked is pretty standard.  The kids actually have a "Bake Day" where they get together at one of the director's house and bake their little hearts out.  They always have a few types of cookies, some brownies, maybe some muffins, and they sell chips and water too.  I thought I would make something Shrek-themed and appealing to the little ones that came to the play.  I made cupcakes.  I admit my daughter and I love to watch the Food Network and the Cooking Channel so naturally I imagined myself as a contestant on Cupcake Wars.  Lol. Sometimes I wish I was making a YouTube video so the resulting ridiculousness could be shared.  I spent 2 weeks trying various cupcake flavors, frostings, and designs out.  I wanted something green, eye-appealing, and yummy.  This may be a great time to mention that I actually am not a cupcake fan.   I know I'm weird.  It's not that I hate them just that I am not a huge fan of cake in general not even in smaller sizes.  I think I actually ate 2 cupcakes out of the 100+ that I made.  Thank goodness the rest of my house loves them.  The final decision was not the fondant covered masterpiece I had envisioned (note: There was also an episode of Cake Wars that aired during this time that was Shrek almost ruined me) but instead it was a chocolate cupcake filled and covered with an almond flavored, "Shrek "green whipped frosting.  I then may have went overboard with the green crystals I sprinkled on.  The final touch was the chocolate "S" I put on top.  They were a labor of love.  I wanted the S to match the one on all the programs and advertisements with the little Shrek ears on it.  I had only one copy of the invitation with it on so I had to keep moving it under the wax paper as I was tracing over it with the melted chocolate. I was literally covered in chocolate when I was done but it was worth the effort once I had frozen them for a few hours and put them on the cupcakes.  I think they turned out pretty good because they certainly sold out fast.  I am however the worst Mom in the world because I never saved one for my own little actress. Nothing says loving like a "hangry" teenager after a 2 hr musical when she discovers her Mom never saved her one.

Game of Silence....NBC's Newest Must See!

Happy Tuesday to Me!  So I know it has been a while since I have covered anything involving tv shows that I am obsessed with but......I am right now only 32 minutes in and I am in love with everything about this show. The cast has a few people you may recognize. Larenz Tate (Menace II Society, A Man Apart, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, etc), David Lyons (Safe Haven, ER), and Michael Raymond-James ( Once Upon A Time, Jack Reacher).

The story involves 4 childhood friends and the one event that forever changed their lives.  Each boy is now an adult trying to move on and get over the horrific experiences that happened to them during childhood incarceration.  Jackson ( David Lyons) is a successful attorney on his way to marriage to the "perfect woman" and a partnership when the past rears its' ugly head and bites him in the ass.

I can not wait to watch the next episode! Oh man my tv viewing week is looking up. Here is what my current obsessions look like:

Sunday-Once Upon A Time/Fear The Walking Dead
Thursday- Vikings ( down to the last 2 episodes)/ Game of Silence (episode 2 continues 4.14 @ 10)
Friday/Saturday -Movies, Netflix, Foodie shows

Happy viewing!

And Then There Were Three: Sixty-Seven Letters to Sasha Review

I received this book in exchange for an honest opinion.  I chose this book to review based on the overview written on the back that just seemed so intriguing.  The book is author Julia G. Fox’s memoir on her marriage to her husband George and the unique circumstances that found her in  a polyamorous relationship with his former college lover Sasha.  The book is told in the form of 67 letters written to Sasha from Julia’s perspective.  I will admit that the main reason I chose this story to review was that it is on a subject that is never, really discussed in detail in society. Here in the US we have a general knowledge of religions who allow for multiple spouses and even a TV show to help us understand a bit more but this was not like that at all.  The couple, George and Julia are not intentionally looking to add another person to their marriage.  It is in fact a love story that can be summed up best by saying “ girl meets boy, gets married, realizes husband had boyfriend in the past, couple reunites with former lover, all three begin complicated relationship”.  This is really a simplified description because there is so much more to this story.  It is heartbreaking to realize on one hand how easy it was for the threesome to fall into a compatible relationship.  On the other hand, it is devastating when you realize just how entangled and blurry the relationship and emotions become. This is a fairly modern time period that the story takes place in ( including references to Google maps) but you realize that Sasha has come from a culture where being homosexual was not only frowned upon but actually punishable by law.  This was the most interesting part for me as a reader.  I enjoyed seeing things from a very different perspective.  Ms. Fox is able to put so much into each of these tiny letters she writes.  The first letter is where the reader learns about the married couple and ho they came to the conclusion to seek out Sasha.  The letters then continue to explain  her first meeting with him and her thoughts and impressions of him.  The story keeps unfolding with each new letter taking you on a very touching and in-depth view into the workings of this relationship.  I really enjoyed reading this book but it is not for everyone.  There are sexually descriptive scenes in the book that some may find offense with especially if they do not approve of the sexual orientation of the characters.  These scenes are handled maturely and in a way that is not distracting from the overall tone of the book. This book is beautifully written and filled with very important issues still facing our LGBT community now. The book was published on September 3,2015 by Dog Ear Publishing and it can be purchased on,  on, or any other site you purchase books from. You can also read more on this book or the author by visiting the Goodreads website the author’s site.
