Our Trip to the Corning Museum of Glass

A few weeks ago we were looking for something different to do on a weekend that wouldn't break the bank.We live in Western New York where you have to drive at least an hour and a half to find anything mildly entertaining.Corning, New York is a nice little day tripwith very cool shops, gourmet restaurants, and it happens to be home to the Corning Museum of Glass. I went to visit this the first time when I was in 6th grade and remember thinking how much fun I had there. It was just as cool as I thought it would be.  These are just a few pictures from our trip and keep in mind these are all made of glass.  My daughter was obsessed with the feather style vases and I hate snakes but still thought the cobra lamps were interesting.  The museum itself was not expensive at all. Adults are $18 but this gives you 2 day access ( for those of you wanting to stay locally for a weekend) and children 17 and under are free. There are also special tickets that allow you to visit the nearby Rockwell Museum. They are open all year long with the exception of 4 major holidays.  They have a youtube channel and a pretty cool website that I recommend checking out.  We watched a live demo of the making of a 2 handled vase.  They even gave away some free pieces to the crowd.

If you are not sure why Corning Glass sounds familiar it is because in addition to the amazing dishes, bakeware, and drinking glasses they make.....many of us have a smart phone that has Corning Gorilla Glass as the screen.  Yep, same company!
