Fourth Down #4 in the Game On series by Desiree Holt

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. This was such a great read. I only gave it 4 stars but that is because I actually thought the best friends of both Holly and Chase were really annoying. They meant well but I just felt like they were too pushy. I love the chemistry between the main characters and the fact that they were both dominant personalities. Holly is a female firefighter and seriously...how cool is that?! Her dream job has cost her a long term relationship and strained her family ties. Chase is in the Coast Guard and an ex-football hero with abandonment issues. I love the way Desiree Holt has brought these characters to life and made them so easy to relate too. This was an excellent read that I will be recommending to others for sure.

My Thoughts on Big Package by Opal Carew

I voluntarily reviewed this book provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. I chose this particular book because I have a few friends who are Opal Carew junkies. They are forever reading her stuff and telling me how much I will love her books. Well....I gave it a try. The book was OK...just OK for me. I love romance stories with a smutty edge to them. I like hot and steamy just as much as the next reader but there are a few deal breakers for me and this book had them all. I hate the use of certain words when describing female parts and I am not a fan of "dirty talk" that gets too explicit. I know that seems odd considering I do like erotic fiction but, for me, I feel like it distracts from the scene. These personal issues aside the story itself is actually pretty cute. Holly Benson recently broke up with her asshole ex and is on her way to visit her sister and brother-in-law for Christmas. Jim, the ex, decides to extend a olive branch in order to try and make a horrible break-up somewhat more civil by offering to take Holly to the bus station. He is not a nice person and what he does to her was meant to be embarrassing. I won't give any spoilers away here but he is an asshat. She ends up missing the last bus out and with a storm coming it looks like she will be missing Christmas. Surprise, surprise she runs into her high school crush, Kalen Wells. Kalen has just put his own sister on a bus back to Florida after his family celebrated early. He doesn't recognize Holly right away but he is drawn to her. Holly reminds him they went to school together and he remembers just how much he always had a secret crush on her too. This is super cute. I mean who hasn't had a secret crush that they wanted to reconnect with? Kalen offers to drive Holly to her family since he leaves in the same town they do. They spend a cozy car ride reconnecting only to get stuck in the storm. Lucky for these two, Holly's sister happens to own a cabin not far from where the road has been closed that they can stay overnight in. The overnight becomes a weekend and the chemistry between these two is off the charts. The title it turns out is EXACTLY what it sounds like. They have a "large" issue to work around but all ends well in the physical department. The rest of the book revolves around issues like insecurity and infidelity. I love that the characters go through personal growth to overcome these issues but I feel like it wasn't shown to the reader as much. Holly has this whole outlook change and it all happens behind the scenes so that kind of killed it for me. It is a fast paced read that at sometimes seems too fast but still a cute story. My friends that love this author will not be disappointed I am sure.

Review on The Flip by Michael Phillip Cash

I was recently on a site that I use to find prospective companies or authors looking for honest opinions and stumbled upon an intriguing book.  The cover attracted me to the book because it has a spooky, supernatural vibe to it.  I had never heard of this author before but the description of the book finished luring me in.

Julie and Brad Evans are a young married couple who met at a singles mixer. Julie is driven and somewhat impulsive.  Brad is retired from the military and after 2 tours in Afghanistan thinks he has seen it all and just wants a nice, quiet, life with his wife.   They begin flipping houses with the intention that Julie can eventually quit her job and devote themselves to flipping houses as a career. They seem to be progressing at a nice speed until they purchase the house on Bedlam St.  All of a sudden everything seems to change.  The house itself is a huge Victorian mansion with a lot of history and comes with some unexpected guests.

Tessa and Gerald have been dancing around each other for what seems like forever.  Gerald has been waiting for what seems like forever for Tessa to realize how much she needs him but she just wants everyone else.  Once she sets her sights on Brad things take a turn for the worse.  She starts trying to find ways to get rid of Julie and get Brad to notice her.  This would be much easier for her if she was not as ghost.

I am not going to give away too much of the plot but this book had me hooked from the prologue.  It was easy to read and very engaging.  I really liked the way the story unfolded.  Even better when I  got this book I also got a second one by the Author ( see pic below) and can not wait to get started on it.  I just can't say enough about how great this book was!

Disclaimer: this story includes explicit sex, violence, strong language, and sensitive topics. For mature audiences.

A little while back I was given an advanced reader copy of a book by Lena Hart in exchange for an honest review.  I had never heard of the author and the book was part 3 of her Queens Quartette series.  I loved it! I not only was able to read it as a standalone book but I was hooked from the first page. So naturally when option to review this newest book came up I leaped at the chance.  This is actually the final chapter in a trilogy featuring David Carrone  and Athena Lewis. I, once again have not read the first 2 books, but I was aware of the characters since they were carried over from the other series I read.

Let's just talk about the cover for a minute.....if the model on the front doesn't catch your eye then I don't know what will. He is beautiful!  I hate when you read a book and form a picture in your mind of what the characters look like and then the actual cover ( or movie version sometimes) has a completely different image.  This was not the case here. Mr. "Dark, Broody, and Italian" fit the bill perfectly.

The story had me from page 1. Yes, it is packed full of steamy, sexy bits but even if you stripped all of those parts out the plot would still have held my attention.  This has a lot of tough issues that are tackled (note the disclaimer up above in the description) and some readers may not be comfortable with them.  There are some pretty violent scenes but they come with the organized crime sort of life that lies beneath the surface of this love story. I actually yelled at the couple (aka my kindle) during one particular fight they were having about being "open and honest" because they were both lying.  That is when I knew this would be a 5 star review on Goodreads and Amazon.

I am now and forever a fan of Ms. Hart's writing. I will include all the links to learn more about her below.  Random side note....Here characters in this and other books tend to be interracial couples which resonates with me on a personal level.  The best part about it is the simple fact that it is a background theme, never the focus, in her stories.  The books are about the quality of the characters not the superficial outward appearance differences.  The guys are hot and all alpha-like, the women are all smart, tough, and gorgeous, and the stories are captivating.

Until I joined the Marching 300 at Sauvage State University, I was just too-tall, tuba-playing Lena Leblanc. But college changes everything. Suddenly I have friends, and they won't let me dodge the attraction I have for hulking, Viking-like football player Anders De Groot. He makes me feel; makes me believe that I'm more than a burden to others. That I'm more than just Lena. And for a girl whose mother checked out years ago, that's the scariest feeling of all.

Before I met Lena, all I had was school and football; study and stadiums full of spectators cheering for "Root!" Now, I can't get her out of my head. She's everything I could possibly want in a woman and I need to prove to her how good we'll be together. I need to show her that, no matter what, she's perfection. My perfection. And I'll stand my ground to make sure nothing ever hurts her. Not even her family.

See what I mean? How can he even be real? So impossibly sweet and hot? But with my stepfather threatening us, I'll have to learn how to step up and fight for what I want. Otherwise I'll lose the greatest thing to ever happen to me.

Danica Avet was born and raised in the wilds of South Louisiana where mosquitoes are big enough to carry off small children and there are only two seasons: hot and hotter. With a BA in History, she figured there were enough fry cooks in the world and decided to try her hand at writing.

Writing is how she gives the voices in her head a way out. They speak to her constantly wanting their stories told and she does her best to accommodate them. When she isn’t writing, working, or contemplating the complexities of the universe, she spends time gathering inspiration from her insane family, reads far more than any sane person would want to, and watches hot burly men chase an oblong ball all over a field.

Regency Romp Review

Regency Romps: Rogues, Spies and Lords of Honor, Books 1, 2, 3 by [DeLand, Cerise]
I love Cerise DeLand's writing.  I really do.  She was awesome enough to send me this box set as an advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.  So to her I say thank you very much!

First of all I think the cover is simply stunning. I also love that all the stories are connected.  Don't get me wrong, they are all stand alone stories but it is nice that some of the characters carry over. I actually read Masquerade with a Marquess several months ago and I read it again as part of this set.  Each story has such memorable characters and scenarios. My favorite is Rendezvous with a Duke.
The only thing that I didn't care for so much was the first story in the set.  Lady Varney's Risque Business is a great story but I felt like it got a little too "intimate" right away. I like a good steamy novel as well as anyone but it just felt a bit rushed for my liking.  However, it has such a great ending and the characters have such a great chemistry that I couldn't help but keep reading.

This is hands down one of the BEST box sets I have read in a long time and I recommend anyone who loves a good regency romance to buy it.  https://www.amazon.com/Regency-Romps-Rogues-Spies-Lords-ebook

I have included some blurbs for each of the books below.

Lady Varney’s Risqué Business, Book 1
When Lady Varney, a proper lady of the ton, takes on a new client in her matchmaking business, she discovers he has one risqué demand. Spend the night with him! If she refuses, then she must stand aside and watch the only man she’s ever adored marry another woman. Can she surrender to one night's temptation—and if she does, how can she live without him?

Rendezvous with a Duke, Book 2
Anna Fournier secludes herself, scandal staining her family name and all her prospects for anonymity, employment and even love. But one afternoon she plays her newest composition in a piano shop—and one man hears her and decides to right the wrong done her years ago. In the process, he learns to love her. Can this honorable duke—a man who fought for his country—neglect his duty, ignore his family’s wishes and marry a woman whose reputation is tarnished by the worst crime against the land he loves?

Masquerade with a Marquess, Book 3
Sophia di Contini sailed to England with one burning objective—to find her family’s precious art stolen by the Bonapartes. When Victor Cameron discovers her sneaking into his study, he's shocked at her appearance and silently curses his undying desire for her. But he cannot refuse her his help. Together, they learn that the past can be forgiven and that love is the most priceless treasure of all.
